Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Phototransformation in air

Estimated half-lives for the components of this UVCB substance range from 1.1 to 3.1 hours.

Hydrolysis

Ether bondage are stable and do not hydrolyse to a significant extent at environmental relevant condition. This has been confirmed in an OECD 111 study in which the substance was stable at pH 4, 7, 9 at 50 degrees Celsius during 120 hours (Currenta, 2009).

Biodegradation

Biodegradation screening tests in water are available for NLP3. It can be concluded that NLP3 does not meet the OECD criteria for ready and inherent biodegradability (i.e. >60% and 70% respectively) (see REACH guidance R11, Table R11-2).

In an OECD 301F (manometric ready biodegradability) study with NLP3 9% mineralisation after 28 days was observed based on oxygen consumption (Bayer, 1993). NLP3 was not found to exhibit inherent (primary) biodegradability in OECD 302/302B, EU C.4.D/C.9; mineralisation was ranging from 20 -36% after 28 days based on DOC removal (Bayer AG, 2002).

A non-standard simulation study was conducted using industrial sewage treatment plant activated sludge. A minimum of 7% of the substance was biodegraded in the STP simulation study.

Bioaccumulation

With a log Kow ≤3, the substance can be considered to have a low potential for bioaccumulation.

Adsorption/desorption

In accordance with Column 2 of REACH Annex IX, the study does not need to be conducted as the substance can be expected to have a low potential for sorption (log Kow ≤3). The estimated Koc values for homologous components of this UVCB substance range from 4.1 to 116 L/kg for the lowest (least sorptive) and highest (most sorptive) molecular weight homologues. The components of this UVCB substance can be regarded as having low affinity for adsorption to soils and activated sludge biosolids.
