Additional information

The toxicity of TBBPA to soil macro organisms was tested in 3 studies:

1) Kendall and Nixon (2005): 56 day study in Eisenia fetida at nominal concentrations of 0, 0.31, 0.63, 1.3, 2.5, 5.0, 10, and 20 mg TBBPA/kg. Mean measured soil concentrations were 0, 0.29, 0.93, 2.0, 3.7, 5.3, 11, and 18 mg TBBPA/kg. The 56 d NOEC for reproduction was 0.31 mg/kg dry soil.

2) Kendall and Nixon (2003): 56 day study in Eisenia fetida at nominal concentrations (first definitive test) of 313, 625, 1250, 2500 and 5000 mg/kg and nominal concentrations (second definitive test) of 0.63, 1.3, 2.5, 5.0, 10, 20, 40 mg/kg. The mean measured concentrations were <100, 326, 640, 1250, 2430 and 4840 mg TBBPA/kg (first test) and <0.100, 0.562, 1.16, 2.11, 4.50, 9.01, 16.7 and 35.4 mg/kg dry soil (second test). The 28-day NOEC for survival was 4840 mg TBPPA/kg soil and the 56-day reproduction NOEC was 2.11 TBBPA/kg soil.

3) Sverdrup et al. (2006): 21 day study in Enchytraeus crypticus at concentrations of 1, 10, 100 and 1000 mg/kg soil. Measured concentrations at the end of exposure were 0.59, 3.68, 74.8 and 839 mg/kg dry wt. The test material had a high toxicity to soil organisms, with significant effects on enchytraeid reproduction detected even at the 10 mg/kg exposure level. The NOEC was determined to be 3 mg/kg soil dw.
