Description of key information

No study has been performed on trisodium orthophosphate for the endpoint 'flammability'. An adaptation from the standard testing regime is justified on the following basis:
Trisodium orthophosphate is not considered to be flammable. The substance is handled and used in air and therefore spontaneous ignition in air (pyrophoricity) is not anticipated. In addition, the substance is not known to be flammable in contact with water.
According to the guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment Chapter R.7a section inorganic compounds where the inorganic element is in its highest possible oxidation state are incapable of further reaction with oxygen and can thus be designated as non-flammable. The phosphorus present in trisodium orthophosphate is already present in the highest oxidation phase and therefore testing for flammability is considered to be scientifically unjustified.
