Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Bioaccumulation: aquatic/sediment: 390 (calculated)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

BCF (aquatic species):
390 dimensionless

Additional information

A reasonable estimate of BCF (390) was obtained by estimation from the measured log Kow value of 3.13 using the method in the Technical Guidance Document on Risk Assessment (EC 2003, Part III. Chapter 4, Section 4.5.2.1, Page 38). This method predicts reasonably well for the limited BCF data that are available for the silanes and siloxanes category.

(3-Chloropropyl)triethoxysilane hydrolyses moderately rapidly (measured half-life of 35 h at pH 7 and 25°C) in contact with water to form (3-chloropropyl)silanetriol and ethanol, therefore, the bioaccumulation of the parent substance is only relevant for local exposure with continuous input.

The hydrolysis products, (3-chloropropyl)silanetriol and ethanol, have low log Kow values, and thus have low potential for bioaccumulation.
