Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

A toxicity to aquatic algae test will be conducted with the parent substance, (3-chloropropyl)triethoxysilane (CAS 5089-70-3, EC 225-805-6), in which the exposure to the parent substance will be maximised. This test will be conducted in order to fulfil the aquatic Annex X data requirements for the parent substance.

Additional information

A supporting study reported a 72-hour ErC50 value of >819 mg/l and a NOErC value of 237 mg/l (nominal) for the effects of (3-chloropropyl)triethoxysilane (CAS 5089-70-3, EC 225-805-6) on the growth rate of Scenedesmus subspicatus (new name: Desmodesmus subspicatus) (Evonik, 1993). The study was conducted under EU Method C.3 and in compliance with GLP. In view of the moderate hydrolysis rate of the tested substance (35 hours at pH 7 and 25°C), test media preparation method (18-hour stir-time) and exposure regime (static), it is likely that the test organisms were exposed to a mixture of the parent substance and hydrolysis products initially, and predominantly to the hydrolysis products by the end of the study.
