Description of key information

Thiebaud, H. (1999) performed a growth inhibition test on freshwater algae. Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata exposed to acide bromhydrique 48 % en solution for a duration of 72 hours, following EU method C3, the concentration of test substance causing a 50 % reduction in biomass or in growth rate were determined. EC50-72 hours for biomass was 56 mg/L (95 % CL 27-100) and EC50 for growth rate at 72 hours was 130 mg/L (95% CL 84-7040). A no effect concentration for biomass could not be determined, but the NOEC for growth rate was 32 mg/L (95 % CL not determined).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
130 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
32 mg/L
