The chlorinated isocyanurates are unstable in the environment, because the free available chlorine is rapidly reduced. CYA, or its salt, is the stable degradation product. Therefore, CYA, or its sodium salt, is the substance of interest for terrestrial studies.

An acute earthworm study has been performed with monosodium salt of cyanuric acid (OECD Guideline 207)and gave a NOEC of 1000 mg/kg (equivalent to 756 mg/kg CYA).

Studies have not been performed on plants or soil microorganisms. Justifications have been provided.
