Description of key information

Since the test item could not be ignited when using EU Method A.10, the substance is considered as not to be classified as to its flammability properties.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

The study on flammability was conducted according to EU Method A.10. Tert-Butyl-4-methoxy-4'-dibenzoylmethane could not be ignited with a flame during the preliminary test. In contact with the ignition source Tert-Butyl-4-methoxy-4'-dibenzoylmethane melted immediately while emitting sparks in the beginning. Therefore the substance was considered as being not "highly flammable" according to regulation 67/548/ECC. Since the test substance could not be ignited, it can be assumed that the test result would have been the same if testing flammability of solids using the UN Method N.1, which is prescribed for characterizing physical hazards according to the new CLP regulation for classification and labelling.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Since the test item could not be ignited when using EU Method A.10, the substance is considered as not to be classified as to its flammability properties, neither according to the former DSD regulation 67/548/ECC nor according to the new CLP regulation.
