Description of key information

The substance 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate has a low potential to adsorb (calculated log Koc of -0.33, measured log Kow value of -0.17) and is not persistent (the substance is readily biodegradable). Furthermore, 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate is not very toxic to aquatic organisms (all L(E)C50 values for algae, daphnids and fish are well above 1 mg/L). Consequently, 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate is a Soil Hazard Category 1 substance and its hazard assessment is based on the Equillibrium Partitioning Method. The chemical safety assessment gave no indication of risk and therefore, no further testing is required.
