ENB was found to not be readily biodegradable when tested in a guideline study (<1% at day 28) by nonacclimated activated sludge based on measurement of headspace CO2 evolution. The BIOWIN QSAR predicts that ultimate degradation will however take place within a timeframe of weeks. Whilst there is no formal study available to verify this, the model would suggest potential for inherent biodegradability. For the purposes of environmental risk characterisation however, the conservative assumption is made that the substance is not biodegradable.
