EU Directive No 95/2/EC:
According to Annex V of this directive E 493 = Sorbitanmonolaurate is listed as " PERMITTED CARRIERS AND CARRIER SOLVENTS" as colour and anti-foaming agent. Only those additives listed in AnnexV may be used as carriers or carrier solvents for food additives and must be used under the conditions specified therein.
According to Annex VI of this directive (OTHER PERMITTED ADDITIVES) the maximum level of use of E 493 indicated (refer to foodstuffs ready for consumption prepared following manufacturers’ instructions) is 25 mg/L.
