Description of key information

A skin irritation and an eye irritation study in rabbits are available. No in vitro tests were conducted, because it is well known from industrial handling that beryllium metal is not corrosive. Therefore, the in vivo tests were conducted to distinguish between irritant and non-irritant substances, which is not yet possible in vitro.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Skin irritation / corrosion

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
no adverse effect observed (not irritating)

Eye irritation

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
no adverse effect observed (not irritating)

Additional information

No signs of corrosive or irritating properties of beryllium metal were observed. No calssification is considered required.

Justification for classification or non-classification
