Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

The requirement to conduct an n-octanol/water partition coefficient study was waived because the substance hydrolyses rapidly in contact with water to form 1,6-bis(trihydroxysilyl)hexane and methanol.

However, the log Kow of the parent alkoxysilane was predicted to be 1.7 at 20°C using a validated QSAR estimation method. This result is considered to be reliable and is used for assessment purposes. A measured log Kow value of 3.7 at 40°C and pH 7.5 was determined for the substance in a disregarded study because the selected mobile phase constituents were unsuitable for this type of substance. Also, an important corrective adjustment that would be necessary to validly interpret the result was lacking.

The log Kow of the silanol hydrolysis product was determined to be -3.5 at 20°C using a validated QSAR estimation method.

Methanol has a reported log Kow of -0.82 to -0.64 (OECD 2004).
