Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The EL50 is determined as >100 mg/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Acute Daphnia studies are available for all members of this category. In all studies the EL50 values were determined to be greater than the highest concentration tested.

A GLP-compliant, guideline study is available for Resin acids and rosin acids, fumarated, esters with pentaerythritol, which assessed toxicity to Daphnia magna using Water Accommodated Fractions (WAF) (Harlan Laboratories, 2010b). Analytical verification of test concentrations was conducted. The dissolved test item may have been one or several components of the test item. Given that toxicity cannot be attributed to a single component or mixture of components but to the test item as a whole, the results were based on nominal loading rates only. The study determined an EL50 of >100 mg/L. A guideline study is also available for Rosin, fumarated, reaction products with glycerol and pentaerythritol (Harlan Laboratories, 2010c). This also used WAF with analytical verification of test concentrations, with results expressed as nominal concentrations. No effects were seen at the highest concentration tested, 100 mg/L. Two GLP-compliant, guideline studies are available for Resin acids and rosin acids, maleated, esters with pentaerythritol (Laus GmbH, 2013b, Water Quality Institute, 1993b). Both studies were conducted using WAF techniques, and in both studies the EL50 was determined to be greater than the highest concentration tested, 100 mg/L and 1000 mg/L respectively. A study is also available for Resin acids and rosin acids, fumarated, esters with glycerol, which followed a standard test guideline (Laus GmbH, 2013a). WAFs were used as the substance is poorly soluble. The EL50 was determined to be greater than 100 mg/L, the highest concentration tested.
