Description of key information
Read-across from analogue substances.
Aluminium-magnesium-zinc-carbonate-hydroxide (EC 423-570-6):
* First reliable study (OECD 201, according to GLP principles): A filtered solution prepared at a loading rate of 100 mg ALUMINIUM-MAGNESIUM-ZINC-CARBONATE-HYDROXIDE-HYDRATE per litre contained an average concentration of 0.15 mg test substance per litre when based on Aluminium and a test substance concentration of 0.12 mg per litre when based on Zinc. Algal cells exposed to this solution for 48 hours were not affected (NOEC - 0.12 mg test item/L based on Zn, 0.15 mg test item/L based on Al). Therefore, the EC50 for both growth rate reduction and yield could not be reached.
* Second reliable study: Under the conditions of the test (saltwater), Aluminium-magnesium-zinc-carbonate-hydroxide-(hydrate) did not significantly inhibit
cell growth or reduce growth rate of Skeletonema costatum at concentrations (loading rates) up to and including 180 mg/L (NOEC).
Alcamizer 5 (EC 422-150-1):
ErC50 Algae freshwater (OECD 201 and GLP guidelines, no Mg and Al detected): > 18 mg test item/L (> water solubility)
NOErC (72h) Algae fresh water: 10 mg test item/L (> water solubility)
Overall conclusion: ErC50 > 0.15 mg test item/L based on Al measured concnetrations (i.e. > solubility limit in water)

Additional information
Based on reliable studies with Alcamizer 5 and Aluminium-magnesium-zinc-carbonate-hydroxide, both analogue substances,
[carbonato(2-)]hexadecahydroxybis(aluminium)hexamagnesium is considered to have an ErC50 > 0.15 mg test item/L based on Al measured concentrations (i.e. > WS; loading rate was 100 mg/L).
