Additional information

Data availability:

There are estimated BCF data available but no test data.According to REACH regulation, annex IX, paragraph 9.3.2, column 2, a fish bioconcentration test does not need to be conducted if "the substance has a low potential for bioaccumulation (for instance a log Kow < 3)".

BCF estimate

For i-BMA, the logKow is estimated to be 2.95 according to best studies. Based on that a BCF of 64 has been predicted according to the formula of Veith et al. (1979).

In addition, it has been shown that i-BMA is readily biodegradable without lag phase, indicating that metabolism does not generally need adaptation. Mammalian metabolism data indicate rapid metabolism and a ubiquitous pathway. Therefore, the substance has a low bioaccumulation potential and it is not justified to carry out a fish bioconcentration study.
