In contact with water 2-dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate will hydrolyse slowly. After evaporation or exposure to the atmosphere, the substance will be rapidly degraded by photochemical processes. Since the test substance is readily biodegradable, a rapid degradation in water, sediments, sewage treatment plants and soil is expected. Based on a calculated log Pow and subsequently calculated BCF bioaccumulation is unlikely. Furthermore, adsorption of 2-dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate to the solid soil phase is not expected. The calculated Koc indicates a very high mobility in soil. A Mackay Level 1 calculation showed that over time, the substance will mainly distribute into water (ca. 69.6%) and air (ca. 30.3%).

In conclusion, 2-dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate is readily biodegradable and neither persistent nor bioaccumulative in the environment.
