Description of key information

Monomethylamine is expected to be stable in water (Verscheuren, K., 1988; Schmidt-Bleek, 1982).

In accordance with REACH Annex VIII, column 2, the study does not need to be conducted since the substance is readily biodegradable (Official Bulletin of Economy, Trade and Industry, 1988). Furthermore, the substance has no hydrolysable groups. Based on Kollig et al. (1993) and Boethling and Mackay (2000), amines are generally resistant to hydrolysis because they do not contain labile functional groups. This conclusion is also confirmed by supporting information (Verscheuren, 1988; Schmidt-Bleek, 1982). According to these authors, monomethylamine is thermodynamically stable in water to hydrolysis at pH 4, 7, and 9.
