Description of key information

According to Annex XI No. 2 the testing is technically not possible (not feasible): testing for a specific endpoint may be omitted if it is technically not possible to conduct the study as a consequence of the properties of the substance, e.g. high volatibility. The method described by Annex B.1 - Acute oral toxicity - is not applicable.

In anacute inhalation toxicity test 4 groups of 6 rats (sex distribution and strain not reported) were exposed for 4 hours to chlorodifluoromethane vapors at concentrations of 32000, 64000, 128000 and 250000 ppm. Only one mortality was observed at the 250000 ppm concentration.

Acute inhalation toxicity was evaluated in 4 groups of 6 rats (sex distribution and strain not reported) exposed for 4 hours to chlorodifluoromethane vapors at concentrations of 32000, 64000, 128000 and 250000 ppm. Only one mortality was observed at the 250000 ppm concentration. No LC50 was reported.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The testing of chlorodifluoromethane on acute oral toxicity is technically not feasable, so this endpoint of this classification can not be determined.

Testing of chlorodifluoromethane to acute inhalative toxicity was considered as practically nontoxic.
