Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

The substance is an aluminosilicate wool. Aluminosilicates occur naturally and are ubiquitous in rocks, soils and sediments and are stable over geological time. The substance we discuss here is chemically identical, albeit of different morphology to the naturally occurring materials. It is inorganic, inert and stable and therefore persistent in the environment. It is a dense material and so any suspended fibres will settle rapidly from both air and liquid. There is no intentional release to the environment. Any dispersal of the substance is limited to manufacturing and use facilities. Disposal is restricted to hazardous waste landfill sites(refer to the European list (Decision no 2000/532/CE as modified) to identify your appropriate European Waste Code (EWC)) . There are no known routes for biodegradation.

The substance is not bio-accumulative and shows no evidence of bio-magnification in the food chain. It is an inert, inorganic substance and therefore the octanol:water partitioning coefficient cannot be determined.

The substance is classified under CLP as a 1b carcinogen (by inhalation). It is not genotoxic or a reproductive toxin (see section 7).
