Description of key information

Two separate TGD-approved handbooks agree that the substance has an auto ignition temperature of 404°C. However, the information on the atmospheric pressure was not reported.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Information regarding auto flammability of MEK was sourced from CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics (81st Ed) and Fire Protection Guide to Hazardous Materials (13th Ed.), which are known to contain peer-reviewed data of Klimisch-2 reliability. Based on the information obtained from the aforementioned handbooks, the substance has an auto ignition temperature of 404°C. This value is above boiling point of 79.6°C, and represents the lowest temperature at which vapours of MEK will spontaneously ignite in a normal atmosphere without an external source of ignition.
