Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
2010-01-28 - 2010-04-08
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
other: UN Test Procedure N.1
Principles of method if other than guideline:
The applied testing method (UN N.1) is identical to the testing method in EC Test Procedure A 10 'Flammability (Solids)’ (sole exception: wetting solution was added beyond the timing zone).
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)

N-cyclohexyl-2-benzothiazolesulfenamide is not a readily combustible solid.

Conclusions:
CBS is classified as not readily combustible solid when tested according to UN Test Procedure N.1 (Currenta, 2010).
Executive summary:

N-cyclohexylbenzothiazole was examined in a guideline study according to UN Test Procedure N.1 (identical to EC Test Procedure A10, sole exception: wetting solution was added beyond the timing zone).

The substance was formed into a powder train about 250 mm long by 20 mm wide by 10 mm high on a non-combustible, non-porous and low heat-conducting base plate. 30 – 40 mm beyond the 100 mm timing zone, 1 ml of a wetting solution was added to the pile.

When approached by the ignition flame, the substance neither burn down or burn up, but melted.

CBS is classified as not readily combustible solid when tested according to UN Test Procedure N.1 (Currenta, 2010).

Description of key information

a) CBS is classified as not readily combustible solid when tested according to UN Test Procedure N.1 (Currenta 2010).
b) Pyrophoric properties: In accordance with section 1 of REACH Annex XI, the study does not need to be conducted.
Experience in production and handling: substance is known to be stable at room temperature.
c) Contact with water: In accordance with section 1 of REACH Annex XI, the study does not need to be conducted.
No flammability in contact with water: The substance contains no metals or metalloids and therefore will not release flammable gases in contact with water.

Additional information

Justification for classification or non-classification

CBS is not readily combustible solid, no pyrophoric property, and no flammability in contact with water; and hence no classification according to both Directive 67/548/EEC and GHS (Regulation EC 1272/2008).
