Endpoint:
relative self-ignition temperature (solids)
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
test procedure in accordance with national standard methods
Remarks:
Directive VDI 2263, Part 1
Reason / purpose for cross-reference:
reference to same study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
other: Directive VDI 2263, Part 1
Relative self-ignition temperature:
>= 260 °C
Remarks on result:
other: pure test substance

In the screening test according to Grewer with the pure test substance an exothermal effect starting at 3260°C was observed, which led to a maximum product temperature of 650°C.

In the screening test with the kieselgur mixture (1:1) an exothermal effect starting at 260°C was observed. Self-heating led to a temperature of 750 °C.

Conclusions:
The test item has not to be classified as self-heating substance according to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008, Annex I, 2.11.4

Results and discussion

Flammable solids
Key result
Test procedure:
other: burning index according to VDI 2263
Remarks on result:
other: burning index BZ 4
Remarks:
glowing without sparks (smoldering) or slow decomposition without flame

Any other information on results incl. tables

Using an ignition source (flame or hot wire, 2 min) at ambient temperature and at a temperature of 100°C, a very slow flameless decomposition was observed and liquid decomposition productes were formed .

The combustion behaviour of the product at ambient and at elevated temperature is characterized by the burning index BZ 4 (glowing without sparks (smoldering) or slow decomposition without flame).

Due to the very slow propagation of the decomposition reaction the burning rate did not need to be determined.

Applicant's summary and conclusion
