In the receiver pan (i.e. the fraction < 100 µm), no test substance was collected.

Conclusions:
Particle size distribution of Vinasses by dry sieving was successfully performed. In the receiver pan (i.e. the fraction < 100 µm), no test substance was collected.

Description of key information

Liquid Vinasses:
not applicable
Solid Vinasses:
Particle size distribution at different passages:
< 500 µm: 0%
500 - 2000 µm: 0.2%
> 2000 µm: 99.8%

Additional information

For solid Vinasses: The only available study on particle size distribution for Vinasses, residue of fermentation containing biomass of bakers yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) showed a distribution of 0.33 - 1.39% for particle size <125 µm. However, this study is not reliable since only a short summary is given. Therefore, the result for Vinasses, residue of fermentation containing biomass of Corynebacterium glutamicum is given (Method: CIPAC, Physico-chemical Methods for Technical and Formulated Pesticids, MT 59: "Sieve Analyses").

Since all Vinasses are very similar in composition, particle size distribution is as well similar.

The particle size distribution (granulometry) study does not need to be performed for Vinasses, which are marketed or used only in forms of suspension (aqueous solution) and pastes.
