Dose descriptor:
NOEC
Effect conc.:
>= 5 000 mg/kg sediment dw
Nominal / measured:
nominal
Conc. based on:
test mat.
Basis for effect:
reproduction
Validity criteria fulfilled:
yes
Conclusions:
No inhibitory toxic effects occurred on growth and reproduction of C. elegans up to nominal concentrations of 5000 mg/kg sediment dry weight (dw). Thus a NOEC of 5000 mg/kg sediment dw based on nominal concentrations was determined. Between 200 and 3200 mg/kg sediment dw, significant stimulatory effects on reproduction occurred.

Description of key information

No inhibitory toxic effects occurred on growth and reproduction of C. elegans up to nominal concentrations of 5000 mg/kg sediment dry weight (dw) with the read-across substance Silicic acid, aluminum magnesium sodium salt (CAS 12040-43-6, SMAS). Thus, a NOEC of 5000 mg/kg sediment dw based on nominal concentrations was determined. Between 200 and 3200 mg/kg sediment dw, significant stimulatory effects on reproduction occurred.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Since no studies investigating the sediment toxicity of Silicic acid, aluminum sodium salt (CAS 1344-00-9, NAS) are available, a read-across to the structurally related Silicic acid, aluminum magnesium sodium salt (CAS 12040-43-6, SMAS) was conducted. This read-across is justified within the analogue justification in IUCLID Section 13.
