For the evaluation of this endpoint data from the CRC handbook were used as key information, supported by some other handbook data. According to the key information, sodium sulfite is highly soluble in water (determined at 25°C; no pH was given). This information is supported by various other references:
Merck Index: Sodium sulfite is soluble in 3.2 parts water at 25°C.
Kirk Othmer: Approximately 280 g sodium sulfite are soluble in one litre of water. The substance has its maximum solubility at 33.4°C; at higher temperatures it is less soluble in water. The pH was determined to be 9.8.
IARC: Sodium sulfite has a water solubility of 125.4 g/L or 283 g/L at 0°C or 80°C, respectively.
All these data confirm that sodium sulfite is highly soluble in water.
