Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

An environmental risk assessment has indicated that the members of the Aromatic Sulphonic Acids category do not pose a risk to the aquatic environment for all relevant uses. In Annex IX of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 it is laid down that chronic toxicity tests shall be proposed by the registrant if the chemical safety assessment indicates the need to investigate further the effects on aquatic invertrebrates.
There is no trigger for further investigation, In fact:

• The CSR demonstrates that PEC/PNEC is always < 1
• PEClocal/regional is < 1/100th of the water solubility.
• No toxicity is shown in short-term studies and the substances are water soluble
• There is no specific mode of action which can trigger unexpected sensitivity of a group of organisms to the substances under investigation
• log Kow < 3 (or BCF < 100)
