Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

In general, no effects on the toxicity to microorganisms of the test substances within the SCAE C2 -8 category were observed up to the limit of water solubility.

One study on the toxicity to microorganisms of Fatty acids, C16-18, 2-ethylhexyl esters was available (Steele 2006). This test investigated the decrease of bacterial luminescence of the marine bacterium Vibrio fisheri in presence of the test substance (tested as WAF). A light inhibition value of IL50(30 min) of 6951 mg/L (2673 -18072 as 95% C.L.) was reported. Since this test have only a limited relevance for the assessment of the toxicity on microorganims in sewage treatment plants, it was chosen as supporting study.

For a general assessment results from the read-across substance Fatty acids, C16-18 and C18-unsatd., 2-ethylhexyl esters (CAS 85049-37-2) were selected as key study. In this study, the acute toxicity to activated sludge was tested according to OECD 209 under GLP conditions (Van der Kerken 1995). After an incubation time of 3 hours, there was no inhibition of the respiration rate observed within the tested concentration range of 6.5 to 100.2 mg/L (nominal), resulting in an EC50(3h) value of >100 mg/L.
