Description of key information

Fusel oil: ca. 300 °C

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Autoflammability / Self-ignition temperature at 101 325 Pa:
300 °C

Additional information

The auto flammability of fusel oil is based on a weight of evidence using experimental data for the substance itself and the main components of the substance. The main components of fusel oil are ethanol (CAS 64-17-5), 2 -methylpropan-1-ol (CAS-78-83-1), 3 -methylbutan-1-ol (CAS 123-51-3) and 2 -methylbutan-1-ol (CAS 137-32-6).

The experimental self-ignition temperature of fusel oil substance is reported as ca. 300°C. The experimental self-ignition temperatures of ethanol, 2-methylpropan-1-ol, 2-methylbutan-1-ol and 3 -methylbutan-1-ol are reported to be >363 to < 425°, 400 °C, 340 °C and 335 °C respectively.

The conservative self-ignition temperature value of ca. 300 °C is taken as a key value for the chemical safety assessment of the substance.
