Description of key information

The preliminary screening test was performed for the determination of the flammability of Monochloroacetic acid (MCAA).

Within 4 minutes, propagation of combustion of the test substance along the length of a 200 mm pile was not observed. According to the guideline, performance of the main study for the determination of the burning rate of the test substance was not required. Based on the results obtained the test substance is considered ‘not highly flammable’.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

non flammable

Additional information

Justification for classification or non-classification

Monochloroacetic acid (MCAA) is not flammable, and not highly flammable in contact with water or damp air.

Also Monochloroacetic acid (MCAA) is not pyrophoric.
