Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

No respiration inhibition was determined in an experimental study with activated sludge according to OECD guideline 209. Therefore, no effect on the microorganism community in WWTPs is expected.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for microorganisms:
100 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for microorganisms:
100 mg/L

Additional information

No respiration inhibition was determined in an experimental study with activated sludge according to OECD guideline 209. Therefore, the EC50 (3h) was set > 100 mg/L and the NOEC = 100 mg/L (Caspers, 1986). These results are supported by another study which achieved the same results (Fujiwara, 1981).

Other non-guideline studies determined an EC50 (30 min) = 6.6 mg/L (Kaiser & Palabrica, 1991) and a NOEC >15 mg/L (Bringmann & Meineck, 1964). Both studies show methodological and documentary deficiencies. Therefore, they were not used to assess effects of the test item to WWTPs.
