Description of key information

Methyl acetate proofed to be ready biodegradable reaching the 10 -days window.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Biodegradation in water:
readily biodegradable

Additional information

The ready biodegradability of methyl acetate was tested according to several methods. Methyl acetate proved to be readily biodegradable in all tests. 2 tests were according to OECD 301 (301 C and 301 D) of which the test according to OECD 301 D over a period of 28 days is the most reliable.

The mean degradation rate of methyl acetate based on oxygen was > 68% within the 10-day window and reached 70% at the end of the test period. Methyl acetate reaches the 10 -days window.
