Description of key information

Waiving as methyl acetate is readily biodegradable.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Methyl acetate is not supposed to be directly applied to soil. Further, the test substance is readily biodegradable and it does not have the potential to bioaccumulate nor is it considered as a PBT/vPvB substance. Hence, in case of indirect exposure of soil, methyl acetate is expected to rapidly degrade. Therefore soil is not expected to be a compartment of concern. The risk to soil dwelling macroorganisms is negligible.

Methyl acetate showed low ecotoxicity to other test organisms.
