Additional information

Two studies on the toxicity of lauric acid to algae are available.

In the key GLP study (Ministry of the Environment of Japan, 2001) the toxicity to Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata was tested under static conditions according to OECD 201. After an incubation time of 72 hours EC50 and NOEC values were determined for growth rate and biomass: EC50s for both and the NOEC for growth rate were determined as >7.6 mg/L (meas. initial), the NOEC for biomass was 4.4 mg/L.

The GLP-study by Wierich and Kläs (1994) conducted with Desmodesmus subspicatus according to DIN 38412, part 9 resulted in EC50s (72h) for growth rate and biomass of >100 mg/L (nominal) and 30 - 100 mg/L (nominal), respectively.
