Description of key information

The partition coefficient of Difluoromethane was evaluated in a study performed in accordance with OECD testing guideline 107 and GLP requirements. The partition coefficient of Difluoromethane was of 0.21 at 25°C.

The partition coefficient of the substance was also calculated according to Hansch and Leo method, and was found to be 0.192.

Information on the partition coefficient of the substance was taken from a publication (Sangster, 1989) which is considered adequate for assessment, and was found to be 0.2.

The logKow value of difluoromethane has been estimated by the model KowWin (v1.67) as follows: logKow = 0.71.

The four available values of log Kow for difluoromethane are in the 0.192 - 0.71 range. The experimental value obtained according OECD 107 method and GLP requirement is considered the key value. Consequently, it can be considered that difluoromethane has a low potential for bioaccumulation and adsorption.
