Alpha-methylstyrene proved to be not readily biodegradable (54 % biodegradation after 28 days). However, in-depth evaluation of the biodegradation study results lead to the conclusion that the test substance is rapidly biodegraded in standard test systems.

The lowest acute EC/LC50 value in aquatic tests is the EC50 of 1.645 mg/L for Daphnia magna.

The lowest reliable long-tern effect value in aquatic studies is the 21 d NOEC of 0.401 mg/l for Daphnia magna.
