Description of key information

With high probability acute not harmful to algae.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
225 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
129 mg/L

Additional information

Several studies are available on the acute toxicity of butan-1 -ol to algae with EC50 values far above 100 mg/L. Only one out of these has been performed according to OECD guideline 201, under GLP-conditions and with analytical dose verification (Equilon Enterprises 1998). The EC50 (96h) was 225 mg/L for Selenastrum capricornutum (measured concentration), the NOEC was 129 mg/L. This result is supported by observations of BASF AG (1989).
