Description of key information

The surface of ferrosilicon slag is composed of silicon, calcium, aluminium and magnesium rich oxide phases. No iron was detected on the surface. The thickness of the surface oxide layer is only few nanometres. Si-Slag was characterised as non-fibrous, or as mainly non-fibrous with a relatively small proportion of respirable fibres. Quartz and cristobalite content were < 0.3%. There were no bundles of asbestiform fibres present.
