The molecule has no chemical groups that are associated with explosive properties. Therefore, in accordance with Column 2 of REACH Annex VII, there is no need to conduct the explosive properties study. However, like many chlorosilanes, it has an oxygen balance above -200. Experimental explosivity data for trichloromethylsilane are read-across as supporting data. The calculated oxygen balance for the registered substance dichloro(dimethyl)silane is -87 and that of trichloro(methyl) silane is -37. Trichloro(methyl)silane was found to be not explosive in a reliable standard study (EU Method A.14, reliability 1; read-across conclusion is given reliability 2). It can therefore be concluded that the presence of chloro group in an organosilicon compound is not associated with explosive properties.

There is no evidence to suggest that the substance should be classified for this endpoint.
