Study period:
09/03/2010 - 09/03/2010
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: Study according to international guideline (EU method A.10) under GLP. No deviations from guideline reported.
Reason / purpose for cross-reference:
reference to same study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
Deviations:
no

Test procedure:
burning time (test type not further specified)
Burning time:
0 s
Remarks on result:
other: Steam Activated Carbon could not be ignited with a flame during the preliminary test (contact time of about 2 minutes).

In contact with the ignition source, Steam Activated Carbon emitted some sparks and glowed under the ignition source. No propagation of a flame or glow was visible. After the experiment, Steam Activated Carbon was still a black powder.

Interpretation of results:
other: not highly flammable
Conclusions:
Steam activated carbon is not considered to be higly flammable according to the criteria of EEC Directive 92/69 A.10.
Executive summary:

The flammability of steam activated carbon was determined according to EU method A.10 under GLP. The activated carbon could not be ignited during the preliminary test. Based on this result steam activated carbon is not considered to be flammable according to the criteria of EEC Directive 92/69 A.10.

Description of key information
