The acute toxicity of Vinyl laurate to Daphnia magna was determined in a 48 hour static test in accordance with OECD Guideline 202. Daphnia. The study encompassed two treatment groups: one control and the water phase of a supersaturated stock suspension of nominal 200 mg/L after treatment in a separatory funnel was tested (no concentrations above the solubility limit of the test item in the used test medium were tested to avoid physical effects of undissolved test item onto Daphnia). Each treatment group contained 20 individuals. The immobility of the Daphniawas determined in a static 48-hour test by visual controls after 24 and 48 hours. The samples of the freshly prepared and aged (48 hours old) test medium were analysed via TOC-method. After 48 hours of exposure no immobilization of the test animals was observed in the control and the test item concentration of 200 mg/L. All validity criteria were met. The quantification of the test item in the test media was not possible. Due to the low water solubility of the test item the concentrations of test item in the test media were below the limit of quantification of the analytical method.The toxic effect of the test item Vinyl laurate to Daphnia magna was assessed in a static limit-test. The 48-hour EC50 value was > 200 mg test item/L.
