In the atmosphere a half-life of 2.9 days for adipic acid is estimated due to indirect photolysis with hydroxyl radicals. Hydrolysis of adipic acid is not expected, due to the lack of funtional hydrolysable groups.


Adipic acid is readily and inherently biodegradable.


The calculated BCF values indicates that adipic acid has no potential on bioaccumulation in aquatic organisms.
