Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Except the high pH of GL, the general toxicity of GL to terrestrial plants is expected to be low, since plants are well adapted to the presence of GL constituents in soil and soil pore water. Sulfur is an essential element to plant species and a beneficial nutrient. Even if it is toxic, H2S is almost always present in soil under anaerobic/anoxic conditions. Carbonate is non toxic. There are no known direct exposure of the substance to soil compartment. Based on the results of CSA assessment and on the already existing exposure and effects information, it is currently not seen necessary to conduct any targeted ecotoxicological testing of GL for terrestrial plants.
