Additional information

Freitag et al (1985) report a 3 day BCF of 90. This was the highest BCF value for fish identified in the EU RAR for toluene (2003). Data from a non-standard study (Freitag et al. 1985) and the estimated BCF of 42 calculated following the method of Veith et al (1979) recommended in section 4.5.2.1 of the TGD and based on a log kow of 2.73 both indicate that toluene has a low potential to bioaccumulate.

The measured log Kow of 2.73 indicates that toluene does not exceed the screening criteria for bioaccumulation stipulated in ECHA’s Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment - Part C: PBT Assessment (2008). Therefore, toluene is not considered to be bioaccumulative (B) or very bioaccumulative (vB).
