EC number: 270-659-9 | CAS number: 68475-76-3 A complex combination of finely divided inorganic particles separated from the exit gases formed during the manufacture of Portland cement. The flue dust consists of uncalcined raw materials along with partially calcined materials. Some Portland cement clinker is usually included. The major constituents of kiln dust are calcium carbonate, clays, shales, quartz and sulfate salts. The following materials may also be present:@Dolomite@Ca(OH)2@Feldspars@CaSO4@Fly ash@KCl@Iron oxides@K2CO3@CaF2@K2SO4@CaO@Na2SO4@Glasses of SiO2, Al.s@Portland cement chemicals [659

- Conclusions:

A Respiration Inhibition Test according to OECD Guideline No. 209 was performed with the test item FlueDust S from 2010-04-07 to 2010-04-08 at Dr.U.Noack-Laboratorien, D-31157 Sarstedt. Test system was activated sludge of the municipal treatment plant of D-31157 Sarstedt. The test was performed under static conditions with the nominal concentrations 100 - 180 - 320 - 580 - 1000 mg/L without adjustment of pH and 580 - 1000 mg/L adjusted to pH 7 to differentiate between pH effects and test item effects. The respiration rates of control, reference and test item concentrations were measured after a contact time of three hours, and the inhibitory effects of the test and reference item were determined in comparison to the control respiration rates. The concentration effect relationship of the test item concentrations without adjustment of pH is shown in Figure 1. The inhibition of the test item ranged from -16 % to 87 %. The neutralised test item concentrations showed inhibitions from -8 % to -6 %. Therefore it can be concluded that the determined inhibition is due to the low pH value of the test solution but no effect caused by the test item.

Additional information
Two Respiration Inhibition Tests according to OECD Guideline No. 209 were performed with the two test items Flue Dust S and Flue Dust T (batch number: 12-2009) from 2010-04-21 to 2010-04-22 at DR.U.NoAcK- LABORATORIEN, D-31157 Sarstedt. The inhibition of the test item ranged from -5 % to 94 % for Flue Dust T and from -8 to 87 % for Flue Dust S. The neutralised test item concentrations showed inhibitions < -8 %. Therefore it can be concluded that the determined inhibition is due to the low pH value of the test solution but no effect caused by the test item.
The test item Flue Dust T is not toxic at concentrations < 489 mg/L to activated sludge of a municipal sewage treatment plant.
The test item Flue Dust S is not toxic at concentrations < 615 mg/L to activated sludge of a municipal sewage treatment plant.
