According to the REACH Regulation, the study does not need to be conducted if the substance has a low potential for bioaccumulation (Annex IX, column 2 adaptation).

Considering its high water solubility, NaOH is not expected to bioconcentrate in organisms. Log Pow is not applicable for an inorganic compound that dissociates (EU RAR 2007, section 3.1.1 page 19 and section, page 26). In addition, sodium is a naturally-occurring element that is prevalent in the environment and to which organisms are exposed regularly, for which they have some capacity to regulate the concentration in the organism.
