Description of key information
1) WoE: Short-term fish test (Fathead minnow); limit test; 1977; no OECD guideline (Eastman's internal method); predates GLP; LC50 (mortality, 96h) > 97 mg/L (nominal)
2) WoE: Short-term fish test (Danio rerio); limit test; 1994; EU method C.1; GLP; LC50 (mortality, 96h) > 78 mg/L (nominal, based on DOC)

The first acute study (Fathead minnow) (Hirsch, 1979) was not performed according to any specific guideline. This limit test did not show any toxicity up to 97 mg/L test substance (nominal concentration). The second test (Danio rerio) (Scholz, 1994) was performed according to the EU method C1 and GLP standards, however this was also a limit test. No toxicity was shown up to 78 mg/L test substance (nominal concentration, based on measured DOC levels). Although both tests have restrictions, they provide sufficient information to assess the absence of acute toxicity and therefore it is believed that a weight of evidence approach is most appropriate.
Both tests are limit tests, consequently no clear dose response curve could be established. Additionally, the described concentrations are well above the water solubility of the substance and therefore the test results need to be treated with caution. Nevertheless, the results of both tests do not indicate any toxicity up to 78 mg/L test substance.
