Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
61 mg/L

Additional information

The toxicity on aquatic algae was investigated in a guideline study according to 87/302/EEC "Algal inhibition growth test" [Ciba-Geigy Ltd., 1992]. The study was conducted with the green algae species Desmodesmus subspicatus. Based on the low water solubility, the test item was dissolved in alkylphenol-polyglycolether then dispersed in water, yielding a final vehicle concentration of 3.6 mg/l at the highest test concentration. The test substance was homogeneously distributed in the test vessels at all test times and test concentrations, except at the test concentration of 10 mg/l and 100 mg/l where a small deposit was observed. After 72 hours of exposure the EC50 (72h) was 61 mg/L and the NOEC < 1.23 mg/L (nominal) based on biomass.
