Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Based on the available data on its physical and chemical properties, [1,3(or 1,4)-Phenylenebis(1 -methylethylidene)]bis[tet-butyl]peroxide is a yellowish waxy solid with a slightly aromatic odour at ambient temperature and pressure (big compact blocks with a powder fraction with diameter of particles near 200µm). Its melting point is between 37 and 54°C at normal pressure and its relative density is around 0,97 at 20°C. No boiling point is available because the peroxide decomposes before boiling (its Self Accelerating Decomposition Temperature (SADT) is around 70°C). The vapour pressure is very low (1.2 x 10-6 mbars at 20°C by extrapolation). It is considered as insoluble in water based on the water solubility of 0,04 mg/L at 20°C, and to be potentially bioaccumulable based on a calculated logKow value of 7,3. Besides, based on its chemical structure, [1,3(or 1,4)-Phenylenebis(1 -methylethylidene)]bis[tet-butyl]peroxide is NOT expected to be explosive. The oxidising properties has not been evaluated (the substance is an organic peroxide).
