Endpoint:
biodegradation in soil: simulation testing
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is readily biodegradable

Description of key information

According to Annex IX, column 2, this study does not need to be conducted if the substance is readily biodegradable. Maleic anhydride hydrolyses rapidly (DT50 = 0.3 min), forming maleic acid. The substance itself and maleic acid are both readily biodegradable. Therefore, further testing on biodegradability and identification of degradation productsi s not required.

Key value for chemical safety assessment
